After moving into our house 7 years ago, we’re finally getting started on the master bedroom project we’ve been dreaming about. Alan and I have had a general idea of what we want our bedroom and bathroom to look like, but we needed some uber tasteful help so I asked my good friend Dee to pull together an inspo board for us. Let me tell you, she gets us and she has the best design aesthetic ever. I obviously knew this when I asked her to help us but when she sent the moodboard, it was as if she got into our brains and pulled together all of the ideas in our heads and made it all work.
As we’re in the midst of construction, I wanted to share the inspo and details for the bedroom and bathroom! This is the pretty stuff. What’s not pretty is actually spending months saving money and doing tons of research to source finishes at the right place.
When it comes to buying allll the things for a bathroom, there are so many places online and offline to shop, but I always head to Build.com for one-stop shopping. For starters, they have the best selection of products and the pricing is just right (trust me, every dollar counts during a renovation!). Build.com has knowledgable project experts who help answer questions and provide details on products so you can buy knowing it’s the right product for your renovation.
Although we have 2 bathrooms currently, for some reason we all congregate around a tiny single vanity in Harlee’s room. I need a double vanity to survive you guys! Signature Hardware is gold when it comes to bathroom vanities. We selected a teak vanity with a black marble top and it’s going to look soooo good! I love that I was able to find a marble top that is sized perfectly for the vanity at SH. It eliminates additional stress and costs in having to visit a stone yard and then get it custom sized.
After doing tons of research on faucets (there are so many options), Alan and I chose the Pfister Contempra line in Brushed Gold. The Contempra line has a great modern look which is perfect for our mid century modern home. Want to know something? Not all brass and gold is created equal! Although other brands have a brass or brushed gold options, the finish either looks yellow or champagne, but not Pfister’s brushed brass – it’s the perfect brass tone!
If I could marry tile, I would marry Fireclay! I first discovered them when we needed the perfect backsplash for our kitchen. When it came time to selecting tile, I knew I’d find what we wanted from Fireclay. Again, we wanted to work with the mid century modern aesthetic of the house, but skew a bit more modern. We’ve selected Uni Mountain for the floors and brick in San Gabriel for the walls.

The aesthetic for our future master bedroom is moody, bohemian, and glam. Alan and I both love wallpaper and we definitely wanted to go with a dark vibe for the room. Stark white and bright rooms are always trendy, but I love the idea of escaping to a space that’s comforting and that, for us, is rich hues of navy and green.
The room is large enough that we’ll have space for a reading nook and vanity area. This is such a big departure from the tiny room (Harlee’s old nursery) Alan and I are currently in. I’m dreaming of the day when we have more space!
Our old master had a built in vanity, so I’m looking to create a similar space in the future room. I use the vanity every morning and I really can’t imagine not having one. It’s where I put all of my jewelry, makeup and beauty goodies.
While the bathroom is definitely the direction we’re headed, the bedroom is still more inspiration than reality. I love the aesthetic that Dee has pulled together, but we’re putting all our money into the renovation so the decor for the bedroom is going to come later and in bits and pieces. This is the reality for most people, so I’m not feeling sorry for myself, but being transparent as there won’t be a dramatic reveal with all of this amazing decor for you!
There are some incredible pieces here, which we’ll be saving for but I’m also going to look for similar pieces at the flea market and thrift store to save money but also maintain the unique vibe we have in the rest of our house.
Okay, so let me know – what do you think of all of this?
