Modern Bohemian Patio Decor

Much like everyone else, we’ve been busy tidying up the house and I’ve been restyling every single room over and over again. If we’re going to be spending all of our time at home, then I want everything to look amazing since I’ll be staring at it all the time for foreseeable future. I’ve been able to zhush our modern bohemian patio decor a bit to get it to a place I’m happy for now.

To give you a sense of our outdoor space, you can access the patio from both the living and dining room via the large sliding glass doors. Off the patio, is a large deck area (which we’ll be fixing up this summer). When we updated the kitchen 4 years ago, I wanted to be able to see out onto the deck from the kitchen. We entertain a lot so it’s super important that there is a nice flow between rooms and spaces. I also just love having an open floor plan which lets in so much light.

One of the updates we did while we worked on our master bathroom renovation, was adding fans and additional outlets on our patio. Not only do we entertain a lot, but we also spend tons of time on our patio. We wanted fans to keep cool year round plus add to our Sonos system so we can have music everywhere.

As you know, I’m all about details so while some people don’t like to spend money or time finding the right lighting, fixtures and other pieces, I spend allll my time looking for the right piece. I wanted a minimal, modern and design forward fan, which I found in the Cassius by Hunter Fan. We have 3 of them over the patio area which are all on a single switch. It’s the most simple thing, but I love switching them on while I step out on the patio. We also added our cafe lights on a switch so I’m elated! #it’sthelittlethings

The picnic benches are nothing fancy but they work for us. We found them at IKEA and we love them. Remember the bit that we entertain a lot? Well, I also have a big family and we host Thanksgiving every year (and yes, if it’s warm, we host on the patio) so I want everyone to fit around the table! We bought two sets and put them together so we can now accommodate about 18 people!

While I do think some IKEA piece can be a bit basic, I like to DIY or dress them up to fit my aesthetic. I always have the lanterns, case study planter and macrame runners on the tabletop so it looks styled, rather than being a plain picnic set. This is a personal choice but I always find when I do minimal styling as my starting or my “base” then I’m always happy with the end result.
