One Room Challenge Fall 2020: Week 2 Bedroom & Office
A lot can happen in a week but you can also accomplish as little as possible. This past week has been the latter. While we picked paint colors and I got an antique sofa, there isn’t much else to report. But I promise a lot of updates in the coming weeks because we’ve got a lot to do and not much time left! For the bedroom, we’ve decided to go with Stone Bridge which is a really beautiful and soothing shade of green. If it were left up to me, we’d go with a dark blue or black but Alan wanted some color! I’m so proud! It does feel a little matchy with the bathroom tile but I’ll be adding so many colors and prints in here, I think the spaces will work together nicely. For the office, we made the decision to go with Deepest Sea. For this space, we really wanted it to be dark and this is such a good dark grey since it has just enough blue in it to keep it from being dull. While I know there are companies that send you a sticker with the paint color on it, I’m old school and love to physically paint the walls the color I’m testing. I also recommend living with it for a few days and looking at it in different light. At first glance, Alan and I liked the middle shade of green for the bedroom but as soon as the sun went down, it looked swampy. The bottom teal looks beautiful at night, but it’s a bit too teal in the day time. We both like Stone Bridge at all times so that’s the winner!
Let’s chat about the antique sofa I got! It’s 18th century Swedish and let me tell you, it’s such a gorgeous piece of artwork! I’m so glad I found it from my friend Anna’s shop Good Eye House & Style. Before it arrived, I thought about upholstering they fabric to something bright and bold. But once it arrived, the black silk is so pretty, I want to give it a gentle clean and stick with it for a bit before changing it out. I’m going to add some color with throw pillows soon enough and it’ll feel less minimalist for me. In the meantime, I’ve been enjoying reading a book and a glass of wine stretched out on the sofa.
If you’ve been following on Instagram, then you know Alan has been working on the placement for the shelves which we ordered from SemiHandmade. While I’ve been teasing him a lot about it, it helps visualize everything ahead of time and also finalize sizing before placing the order.
You may wonder, what’s on our to do list? Well, in short, everything! Here’s a quick rundown.
Bedroom: We’re getting the room painted this weekend which will let us get started on other things. I’ve ordered a few sets of drapes which are arriving soon – I decided to go ahead and order everything so it’s all here for me to try out. Our rug is getting shipped this week and I can’t wait for it to arrive by the end of October. We still need shades, lighting and some artwork. I’m hoping to find artwork at the Long Beach Flea Market this weekend!
Office: The office is also getting painted this weekend. We’re also going to start building the IKEA cabinets while we wait for the SemiHandmade fronts and shelves to arrive. Once the fronts and shelves arrive, I’ll be painting them to match the walls. If you recall, we want the look of built-ins. I’m still searching for the perfect rug for the space as well as some artwork.
