Our deck project has been in the works for some time, but we really sped it up thanks to Covid since we’re home 24/7. If you recall, Alan ended up building the deck a few years ago after a contractor disappeared with our materials and deposit halfway through the project. It was a disaster but he loved building the deck with his hands and ensuring everything was perfect (all of the nails line up, spacing is all exact, etc). Since then we kept talking about updating the decor and then we finally made it happen. Alan and I wanted a mid century modern Scandinavian Californian vibe, which is also been dubbed Scandifornian! Deck makeover this way!
I’ve been searching for the right patio furniture for a while and I found this set at Article. I have some comments on our customer experience below, but we fell in love with the teak wood, dark grey cushions and overall mid century modern Scandinavian Californian vibe. I have a large family who comes over regularly and we also entertain a lot, so I wanted something that could seat a lot of people but also work in various configurations for large and small get togethers. The pillows I purchased from Target over the last few years and they just happened to work together. The lanterns are a newer target purchase (recently sold out!) and they come with a great timer feature so they automatically light up every evening from 6-10pm so whether or not we’re outside, we can still enjoy the flickering lights.
As you can imagine, we’ve been spending a lot of time out here. Alan and I take turns working (and yes happy houring) on the sectional every day. I mean, we live in LA and we can do this year round! I usually work out here in the late afternoon when it’s shaded and then happily transition to a glass of wine or dinner out here as well. I’ve also taken plenty of naps right here since there’s nothing better than a late afternoon nap during the summer months right?
