The Shopping List No. 15: I Wear My Sunglasses

Maybe it’s beautiful weather we’re having in Los Angeles this week or simply because I’m a forever summer girl, I am thinking of some great vintage sunglasses. There are SO many great vintage designers and styles, you’ll seriously wonder why you buy anything new. This shopping list includes the designers you should have on your radar, plus my picks to get you started on your vintage sunglasses collection.

A note about vintage sunglasses: many have prescription lenses so keep an eye out for a note when perusing items. Most eyewear repair shops can switch out lenses for you on the cheap, but if you’re unsure ask your go to spot first. Pro-Op.com is a trusted eyewear repair shop and they have a great customer service team that will let you know if a repair is possible and give you a quote via email.

Cazal

If there is an award for most EXTRA, Cazal takes the top prize! Cazal created its distinctive sunglasses style in the 80’s and quickly became famous for its extravagant and bold designs. You’ll easily spot these legendary sunglasses in movies or music videos because of the unique styles. Warning that Cazal sunglasses are pricey but they are showstoppers and worth the splurge if eyewear is your top accessory choice.

My curated picks:

Paloma Picasso

Daring and eccentric, vintage Paloma Picasso eyewear is guaranteed to make you stand out in any crowd. Vintage Paloma Picasso glasses frames are easily identifiable and famous for being show-stopping.

My curated picks:

Christian Dior

Much like its fashion collections, Vintage Dior Sunglasses are timeless and distinctive. Dior sunglasses are fashion-forward, consistently trendsetting and undeniably vogueish. Vintage Dior frames come in styles for every aesthetic and tend to be most versatile (you can change lenses to wear as eyeglasses or sunglasses).

My curated picks:

YSL

Yves Saint Laurent is known for his practical and elegant fashion collection and the YSL vintage eyewear collection is a perfect example of this.  Regarded as the father of “ready to wear” fashion, YSL vintage frames are sure to add that j’nai sais quoi.

My curated picks:

Ted Lapidus

Ted Lapidus, known as the “poet of French couture”, was credited with making French elegance accessible to men and women. His oversized sunglasses are bold and distinctive and exude 70s and 80s glamour.

My curated picks:

Silhouette

The Silhouette vintage eyewear collection is famous for futuristic oversized plastic frames, worn by the likes of Elton John. Founded by the husband and wife team of Arnold and Anneliese Schmied, they wanted their customers to enjoy wearing eyewear instead of donning boring functional frames. THEY DELIVERED!
