The Shopping List No. 16: Slip Into This

This shopping list should not come as a surprise since I’m very vocal about my love of vintage Victoria’s Secret lingerie slips. They are the best dresses if you love a good silk moment and work for daytime and something a bit dressier. I have 4 of them and wear them all the time. Plus, they’ve been a life saver during my maternity since they accommodate the bump.

Why are they SO good? My theory is that since VS is in the business of making women feel sexier, the cuts and fabric of their lingerie is designed to give women that confidence boost with flattering styles. I don’t know anyone who designs at VS so this may be a bunch of BS, but that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it! Most VS slips are 100% silk, but some are polyester (or satin) so if you’re selective on the materials you wear, make sure you check the tag. All of my dresses are silk with the exception of the latest one I bought at the flea market on Sunday. While I usually avoid polyester, I just loved the skirt and lace panels too much to pass. Plus, it was $25 which is on the low end so I snatched it up and wore it as soon as possible.

When it comes to sizing, ask for measurements. I have VS dresses that range from a size small to large and they all have a different fit. Now a note on pricing…some of the dresses are close to $100 which is a lot for “lingerie” but if it’s 100% silk and in excellent condition, then it’s a good deal. New 100% silk dresses cost at least $300 and simply don’t have the same detailing as VS dresses. As mentioned above, VS slips have asymmetrical hems, lace panels, and slits that really accentuate the feminine figure (most modern slips don’t have any!). So if you love the dress and have the money, treat yourself!
