The Shopping List No. 27: By Popular Request

As you know today was supposed to be spent thrifting in the wild, but instead I’m making the most use of my time at home to pull together a shopping list with everything you requested!

Silk Two Piece

A lot of requests for a silk set like the coral one I found at the thrift store recently. While I couldn’t find something exactly like mine, here are some options that I love!

Modern Table Lamp

I don’t want to give you a heart attack but shopping for super unique and interesting lighting online is expensive, but this gives you an idea of the types of lamps you should be looking for at thrift stores, estate sales and antique centers.

Statement Clutch

Many vintage clutches are made with exotic skins and embellishments which make them very rare and hard to find. Depending on the state you live in, shipping isn’t possible because of this. It’s a great item to look for at estate sales! Mesh and pearl are also great options!

Christian Dior Home Decor

Yes, they produced home decor and it’s SO good! It’s not cheap though.

Oyster Plates

We’re all obsessed with oyster plates and we’re probably watching the same items on eBay! They’re so beautiful and such a cool piece to have on display. It’s definitely something we can find for cheap at an estate sale or thrift store, so while I may pull the trigger and buy one on eBay I’m going to give myself a few months to track one down at my usual haunts.

Upholstered Furniture (what to look for)

The most important thing when buying upholstered furniture is the shape and style. Look for furniture with good bones because you can always change the finish of things but you can’t change the quality of the bones (shape and style).  If I’m keeping the current upholstery, then I always sit on the furniture to test the cushions to make sure there’s some bounce.  I always check the exposed wood parts to make sure they’re not damaged. If you’re getting the piece refinished, then the upholsterer will change the cushions, refinish the wood, and, of course, finish with new upholstery.

While shopping for upholstered furniture in person is best (you avoid shipping fees), here are some great finds:

Vintage Portraits

Vintage artwork is the way to go, in my opinion, when you’re looking to start a collection. I have a lot of contemporary art but I started collecting vintage artwork when I didn’t have a budget (yes, even as a gallery director 15 yrs ago, I couldn’t afford the art that I selected for shows!).
