The Shopping List No. 3 – In the Clear

This weekend, I spotted some gorgeous lucite (aka acrylic) candlesticks and I started searching for all things acrylic on ebay and etsy. If you’re new to lucite, in its pure form it is translucent (looks like glass or rock) but it can be dyed in many colors and opacity. It was super popular in the 50s and 60s and continues to be a popular mid century modern find in home decor, jewelry and accessories. A lot of people ask me what the difference is between lucite and acrylic – lucite is essentially the best version of acrylic.

Now that you have a bit of history, let’s get into the good stuff!

Lucite Ice Buckets

I need a vintage ice bucket like I need a hole in my head, but lucite ice buckets are tres chic and I can’t pass them up to zhuzh my bar cart. If you’re looking for another excuse to buy, I use them for a variety of purposes. One party we hosted a couple of years ago, we served fried chicken in a variety of ice buckets. Designed to hold water, they make great vases for larger flower arrangements.

Lucite Home Decor

This shopping list was inspired by those vintage Lucite candleholders, but there are some good decor items like platters, vases, and more. I’m inclined to pick up some pieces to use for holiday decor this year – I plan ahead!

Lucite Bags & Jewelry

If you’ve been browning Instagram or flipping through magazines, then you’ve noticed chunky clear rings are IN! While many of us remember this trend from the 90s, it goes back to the 30s. While vintage lucite jewelry tends to be on the inexpensive side, lucite box bags have a heftier price tag. I have several lucite bags and they make great versatile bags that I use throughout the year and for cocktail parties (RIP) and casual weekend outings.
