Let’s chat about the shopping lists!

I know you love the shopping lists but maybe you’re wondering why they’re text heavy and not filled with curated pics. Maybe you don’t care! There’s a reason why I send you a bullet list of products with the prices instead of curated pictures that link directly to the item. I give you the full listing title because I want you to see all of the keywords that sellers use when they list an item on eBay or Etsy. Sellers on Etsy are a little bit more curated and will use brief descriptions and pretty images. On eBay, however, the sellers usually just want to get rid of stuff so the images aren’t pretty and the listing titles are extra. eBay sellers will generally use every keyword that describes the item so they can capture potential searches when people are searching for an item. For example, instead of just listing “1980s Givenchy earrings” they will list it using “gaudy gold French dangle 1980s Givenchy earrings” so that if someone is looking for vintage dangle gold earrings they’ll find it along with the person who is looking for Givenchy earrings. Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and other resale sites are similar. Vintage shops (and Etsy, too) are more refined and the listing title will be brief!

My shopping lists are a bulleted list because I’ve worked to make Splendor Collective into an educational tool!  I know a lot of you want to learn how to be more diligent and informed shoppers so this is something for you to take note of. Take a look at the different listings when I’m sending them, especially around a specific topic that you really like and you can use that to inform your eBay saved searches function. Much like Facebook and Pinterest, eBay works with an algorithm so the more you search and save, eBay will show you similar items under specific item listings.

For Sellers

This also helps if you are a seller as it’ll help inform how you want sell and list your items whether it’s on eBay, Etsy or your own online shop. These keywords are also useful for SEO if you have your own site because people like to search anything and everything in Google.  Having descriptive language in your listing title and item description helps people discover your shop when they’re searching. You don’t need to go as far as the eBay titles, but be super detailed in your descriptions to capture any searches that come through the web.

For Shoppers

If you’re a shopper, remember to use the Notes app in your phone so that you can keep track of the things on your need, want and unicorn lists. Add all of these search terms on your eBay saved searches so you’re alerted as soon as an item is listed. I spend 10-15 minutes every day or every other day just searching on eBay and I tag a couple of different keywords and that’s what I focus on and that’s how I find the deals for the Shopping Lists.

Reminder! When it comes to the Shopping Lists, you get first dibs on all of my finds (yup, even the stuff that I’m ready to smash the buy it now), but I give you a 36 hour head start to buy pieces and then it’s a free-for-all for me. 🙂

Thank you for reading.
