The Shopping List No. 19: Snake Jewelry

As promised, this is the follow up list of snake jewelry to match the snake decor you likely picked up a couple of weeks ago. As you know, I love snake jewelry and have quite the collection of necklaces, rings, earrings, and bracelets. There’s no stopping me at this point.

Now a bit of history of why people even started wearing snake inspired jewelry. The allure of the snake can be traced back as early as ancient Greece, where the snake’s ability to shed its skin was seen as a regenerative power. It was therefore associated with Aesculapius, the Greek God of Medicine, and used as a symbol for healing, and was often found on bracelets and amulets. It’s still used today in a lot of medical settings (like ambulances, pharmacies, etc). In Ancient Egypt, the Nile Cobra was once a symbol of nobility and royalty, seen in expensive jewelry as a status symbol which is noted in many hieroglyphs and tombs which were discovered.

The most famous wearer of snake jewelry, Queen Victoria was gifted a serpentine engagement ring for her proposal to Prince Albert in 1839. The emerald on its head represented her birthstone and was a very unique ring for the time.  It has since been replicated as fashion jewelry but I would totally rock it as my engagement ring. It’s been noted that she had a lot of serpentine jewelry and wore them regularly – I love this aesthetic for a Queen!

My selects below are focused on fashion and runway jewelry, but I did find a couple of fine jewelry items that are beautiful. If you are looking to make an investment in a fine jewelry piece, send me a DM since I have all the intel to share on finding a great piece at a great price.
